Support groups are offered to provide a venue for cancer survivors and their family and friends to share their stories, concerns and celebrations. It is a place that provides empathic, emotional support for Hispanic/Latinas faced with breast cancer. These groups are facilitated in Spanish.

Through the mutual interest in the known benefits of yoga, The Wellness House of Hinsdale and Asociación Latina de Asistencia y Prevención del Cáncer de Mama (ALAS-WINGS) are partnering to provide 12 one-hour sessions of yoga, designed for Latina breast cancer survivors & their caregivers.

The goal of ALAS on Wheels: The Mobile Salon™ program is to help survivors regain their sense of well-being, body image and self esteem, important components of treating the whole person. ALAS-WINGS provides prosthetic bras, wigs, and prostheses at no cost to breast cancer patients with limited financial resources.

Women are taught the value of early detection and the importance of breast health awareness. ALAS assists in the explanation and demonstration of proper breast self-examination technique. Hispanic/Latina women also receive guidance and support as they navigate through the complex process of cancer treatment, especially if further testing is recommended.

ALAS-WINGS mission is to enhance the quality of life for the Latino community by providing breast health awareness, education, and emotional support programs for Hispanic/Latina women and their families throughout the Chicagoland area.

ALAS-WINGS, a 501(c)(3) non-for profit organization, is dedicated to empowering Hispanic/Latina women about breast cancer awareness through comprehensive education, support for all women faced with breast cancer diagnosis, and survivorship.

The inception of ALAS arose out of very humble circumstances with the dreams and passion of one Latina breast cancer survivor. Starting with the minimum essentials, ALAS has established loyal relationships with most major hospitals, medical facilities, Latino organizations and businesses throughout the Chicago land area, all of which have provided support for the efforts of ALAS to help uninsured and underserved Latina women and their families.

ALAS differentiates itself from other breast cancer organizations by offering face-to-face tangible services in every phase of the breast cancer process, from diagnosis to survivorship. In addition to providing support groups, health education, ALAS works with the community to provide bras, wigs and prostheses; and provides mentoring about the complex medical processes involved with cancer treatment. Since 2015, ALAS also offers yoga classes to breast cancer survivors and their families. All ALAS’ programs are FREE.

The goal of ALAS is to enable Hispanic/Latina women to receive the very best care and encouragement possible so they can move beyond cancer and begin living fulfilled and happy lives again. Education is key to preventing the rising number of breast cancer patients in this growing demographic. ALAS has the desire, passion and knowledge required to accomplish this goal.
