Judith is a board-certified internist with longstanding interest and experience in cancer survivorship and cancer risk reduction and is herself a breast cancer survivor. She is a passionate advocate for personalized comprehensive survivorship care and previously was Medical Director of Cancer Survivorship at Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University.
The impact of dealing with her own breast cancer diagnosis and treatment led her to focus on cancer risk reduction, improving care and long-term outcomes for breast cancer survivors. Her over 30 years of clinical experience as an internist include two years as a medical consultant for patients at high risk for developing breast or ovarian cancer who were being evaluated for genetic testing in the Center for Medical Genetics at Evanston Northwestern Healthcare. In this capacity, she created a clinical breast health program for women at high risk of breast cancer. She completed a National Cancer Institute (NCI) Postdoctoral Fellowship in Cancer Epidemiology and Prevention and a Master of Science in Clinical Investigation (MSCI) degree in the Department of Preventive Medicine, Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. As academic (Northwestern) co-principal investigator (PI), she collaborated with Judy Guitelman, community co-PI, to conduct a study, “Breast Cancer Disparities in the Hispanic/Latina Community in Chicago” to assess the needs and concerns of Latina breast cancer survivors. This study was funded by Alliance for Research in Chicagoland Communities (ARCC), a component of the Community-Engaged Research Center (CERC) at Northwestern University’s Clinical and Translational Sciences (NUCATS) Institute. More recently, Judith has been involved in breast cancer patient and research advocacy. She is a graduate of Project LEAD, the National Breast Cancer Coalition Fund’s advocacy training course.
Judith is excited to work with the incredible team at ALAS-Wings and to advance its vital mission.
