Mariana M. Martinez was born and raised in Aurora and received her Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Public Health from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois. She works as the Community Health Outreach Coordinator for the Cancer Care Center at Rush Copley Medical Center in Aurora, Illinois. Mariana collaborates with community partners to host educational program on prevention and screening for cancer based on the community needs assessment for Rush Copley’s service areas. She also co-facilitates the Spanish Breast Cancer Support Group and links women in the Cancer Center as well as in the community with the support and resources. Mariana initiated the Cancer Care E-Newsletter to communicate with patients and community members as well as assisted with revamping the Cancer Care website to be more user-friendly. She provides valuable feedback and for culturally appropriate presentation and appreciate presentation and content for patient’s education for our Spanish speaking patients. Mariana strives to bring resources to Waterford Place Cancer Resource Center which provided programs and supports services to patients that are treated in the community and more specifically to Spanish speaking patients. Mariana serves on the Board of Directors’ for Compañeros en Salud/Partners in Health, NFP a volunteer lead coalition and Alas-Wings, Latina Association for Breast Cancer.
